I can’t believe that it’s nearly 2 weeks after our Winter Retreat. I trust that you’re finding time to chat with your teen about their spiritual gifts, abilities and talents. It’s a great time to challenge them to discover how God has created them, and to maximize their service for His Kingdom.
On Sundays, we’re continuing our series in the Gospel of John. Beginning on February 10, 2013, we will take a 4 week break from John to pursue a series on Church Membership and Baptism.
Sunday School – The Gospel of John:
- This Week’s Theme: Students learned that the only way to find satisfaction is through a vibrant personal relationship with Christ.
- Focus Passage: John 7
- Main Points (Parents – use these to follow-up with your teen):
- We examined several groups of people and how they responded to Jesus, including: His siblings, the believing crowd, the unbelieving crowd, and the questioning crowd
- While some didn’t believe in Jesus, we saw that those who do, find that He is the true satisfaction for the problems and issues in everyday life.
Wednesday:
- Miniseries: “Unleashed – God’s Character Brings Freedom” in which we’ll learn how God’s holiness, mercy, grace, and discipline bring us freedom.
- This Week’s Theme: “Divine Doghouse” The students learned how to properly view and respond to God’s discipline.
- Scripture Memory: Hebrews 12:10-11 “Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in His holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
- Discussion Questions (Parents – use these to follow-up with your teen):
- What is the worst discipline you’ve ever received?
- What is the purpose of God’s discipline?
- How does knowing His purpose shape your view of God’s discipline in your life?
